Lead pastor of the Newark Ohio Church of the Nazarene

Sunday, February 12, 2006

Today I chose to attend church in Dublin Ohio. A friend of mine publicly launched this church plant one year ago and today was their birthday. My wife and I attended church in this same building many years ago but what a joy to see the new life and new people that have come to call this place home. For years, the group that founded the original church worked hard to have a successful ministry in the Dublin area. After years of trying they gave up everything to allow a new leader with a new vision to try his hand at doing church in a completely new way. I attended church today with several hundred people this morning. Happy Birthday!

It is painful to watch churches in today's American culture who refuse to make the changes necessary to be legitimate or effective. According to Barna, only 1% of the churches in America are successful at reaching lost or unchurced people with the message. We will all stand before God someday to give account of our stewardship regarding His name and how we used it down here on this earth. I believe even churches will be judged for their lukewarmness and apathy regarding the horrendous and growing need for a relevant Christ centered message and their unwillingness to sacrifice their petty likes and dislikes. What a shame. What a sin. . .
